National Organisation for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (NOFASD)

NOFASD is the national peak body supporting people and families living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) across Australia. Collectively and actively, they promote awareness, prevention, diagnosis and improved outcomes.

NOFASD supports:

  • families caring for someone with FASD
  • people who may have FASD
  • professionals supporting those with FASD.

Vision and mission

NOFASD’s vision is to prevent alcohol exposed pregnancies and improve the quality of life for people impacted by FASD across the nation.

For 25 years NOFASD has been the national voice for FASD and supported affected individuals and families.

Founded by Sue Miers AO in 1999 as part of her personal journey to find FASD answers, information and resources, NOFASD is the essential bridge linking those with lived experience with researchers and clinicians.

How NOFASD can help

  • NOFASD initiatives expand awareness, support research, facilitate policy changes and provide crucial support services.
  • In collaboration with healthcare professionals, educators and policymakers, NOFASD has created a dedicated website platform for affected individuals and their families and carers to find understanding, training and support.
  • NOFASD provides a free helpline service for impacted families.
  • They have tools and resources to support service providers such as teachers, NDIS service providers and allied health professionals.
