The HeadCheck App is a decision support app to assist a person after a head knock, first aiders, trainers, coaches, teachers, carers and family to recognise the signs and symptoms of a concussion, seek medical attention and provide recovery guidance for of concussion or suspected concussion.
HeadCheck is evidence-based and consistent with the Australian Football League (AFL), the Australian Institute of Sport concussion management policy and the tools published by the International Concussion in Sports Group. Developed by leading child concussion experts at the AFL, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) and the Royal Children’s Hospital, HeadCheck helps coaches, first aiders, teachers, carers and family recognise the signs of concussion to determine whether medical attention is required and how to manage the safe return to school, play and organised sport.
HeadCheck is embedded in the Concussion Essentials connected care platform, which transforms world-leading research into practical tools for managing concussion across all ages.
App features:
- provides concussion symptom assessments
- asks prioritised medical based questions and observations
- identifies whether a person’s head injury requires an ambulance or a visit to a doctor and connects to ‘000’ if required
- provides support to carers/trainers/first aiders/teachers in high stress situations
- records incident details in the Incident report
- allows trainer/first aider/teacher to transfer details and care to the carer simply via a text message
- asks person or carer to rate the severity of the person’s symptoms pre-injury and how they are now
- provides tasks and concussion education to based on the injured person’s symptoms and progress
- guides injured person/carer on safe return to work, school and play, based on latest research and clinical guidelines
