RANZCP - The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is responsible for training, educating and representing psychiatrists in Australia and New Zealand. Psychiatrists are specialist medical doctors who are experts in mental health.

The RANZCP has more than 6700 members, including around 5000 fully qualified psychiatrists and 1600 trainees. The RANZCP has branches in every Australian state and territory and a head office in Melbourne as well as a national office in Wellington, New Zealand. In both countries, all psychiatrists must be accredited by RANZCP before they can practice.

Vision and mission

The RANZCP’s vision is to improve the mental health of communities through high quality psychiatric care, education, leadership and advocacy.

How RANZCP can help

The RANZCP supports people with mental illness and their carers, family and friends by providing resources about mental illnesses and the treatments that are available. It also publishes a range of guidelines for use by psychiatrists and other medical professionals.

It produces evidence-based mental health information for the public, available at yourhealthinmind.org as well as a searchable database of psychiatrists working in private practice.
