Healthtalk Australia

Healthtalk Australia conducts qualitative research into experiences of health and illness from the perspective of people with a given health condition, carers and/or health practitioners.

Healthtalk Australia use their findings to produce multi-media digital resources that provide information and support, including by assisting with informed decision making, targeted at the following key audiences:

  • people experiencing different health conditions
  • carers
  • health practitioners and health service providers
  • health educators
  • policy makers

They interview people from a wide range of backgrounds about what it is like to experience various health and related conditions or care for someone with a health condition and record their stories on film or audio. They also interview health practitioners about their perspectives on different health conditions.

Their digital resources feature short summaries of the main topics emerging from their research, illustrated by video, audio and written clips from people’s interviews. You will also find profiles of people interviewed, and links to up-to-date information about different health conditions, how they are treated, and whom to approach for support and information.

Healthtalk Australia is the only research-based digital repository of health and illness experiences in Australia. Established in 2012, they are a consortium of researchers based at RMIT University, the University of Sydney and Monash University.

Healthtalk are also a member of DIPEx International, a network of researchers and digital content creators across 13 countries and 11 languages using the same approach to create research-based digital resources on over 140 health conditions.
